Online Banking Security

FirstBank Southwest is committed to making Online Banking and Mobile Banking safe and secure. We are serious about protecting your personal information online. The internet is and will continue to be the source of many new opportunities. Those who get the most out of those opportunities will be those who use them wisely. Although the information below is not exhaustive, it contains some key points that will help you use Online Banking and the internet in a more secure manner. Always use caution and good judgment.

BEST SAFETY PRACTICES TO REMEMBER

• In your URL browser, the “s” in “https” stands for secure. Don’t offer any personal information if the site or page isn’t secure.

• Consider eStatements and turn off your paper statements to avoid mail fraud.

• Review your account history regularly to identify check fraud or unauthorized transactions.

• Set alerts through FBSW Online Banking, to notify you of balance thresholds, payments and transfers.

• Use firewalls, anti-virus software, and random passwords and frequently clear your internet browser history.

• Protect your User ID and Passwords. Never share your password with anyone, even a bank employee. If you share your login credentials with someone, all transactions they initiate with the information are considered authorized by you, even for a transaction you did not intend for them to make.

• Do not leave your computer or mobile device unattended during an Online Banking session. Sign off after each session and close your browser to ensure cached copies of your Online Banking web pages are cleared.

• If you receive an email that appears to be from the bank, but it asks for your username, password or any bank account information, DO NOT click on the embedded link or respond to the email. DO NOT call the phone number provided in the email. Instead, call the bank phone number you know is genuine and ask about the email. FirstBank Southwest will NEVER request your account information from you in an email. Phishing emails are disguised by fraudsters in an attempt to gain your private account information.

All funds in a “noninterest-bearing transaction account” are insured in full by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation from December 31, 2010, through December 31, 2012.  This temporary unlimited coverage is in addition to, and separate from, the coverage of at least $250,000 available to depositors under the FDIC’s general deposit insurance rules.

The term “noninterest-bearing transaction account” includes a traditional checking account or demand deposit account on which the insured depository institution pays no interest.  It does not include other accounts, such as traditional checking or demand deposit account that may earn interest, NOW accounts, money-market deposit accounts, and Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts (“IOLTAs”).

For more information about temporary FDIC coverage of transaction accounts, visit www.fdic.gov.
